Romans: Week 27
What does it truly mean to welcome someone into our lives and into our faith community? Romans 14:1-12 challenges us to examine the posture of our hearts toward fellow believers who may be at a different place in their walk with God. The passage draws a clear line between two dangerous extremes: legalism, which binds people with man-made rules, and antinomianism, which throws out all moral boundaries entirely. Between those two ditches lies a road that calls us to something harder and more beautiful than either extreme: genuine, grace-filled unity. Paul reminds us that God has already welcomed our brothers and sisters into His family, and that Christ died and rose again to be Lord over all of us equally. That reality alone should reshape how we see one another. We are not each other's judges. We are fellow servants of the same Master, and one day every one of us will stand before the same judgment seat. That level playing field has a way of softening even the most critical heart.
