Romans: Week 19
This week's exploration of Romans 10 invites us to wrestle with one of Christianity's most profound mysteries: the beautiful tension between God's sovereign election and our human responsibility to respond in faith. We're reminded that salvation isn't a complicated odyssey requiring us to ascend to heaven or descend to the depths. Rather, the gospel is near us, on our lips and in our hearts, ready to transform us when we confess Jesus as Lord and believe God raised Him from the dead. The passage challenges our culture's notion that everyone has their own truth, boldly declaring that Jesus is THE truth, the only way to reconciliation with God. This isn't narrow-mindedness but rather an invitation extended to all who would believe. We're confronted with the reality that religious zeal without truth, sincerity without Christ, and good intentions without the gospel cannot save us. The righteousness we need isn't something we can earn through our own efforts or moral achievements. Instead, we receive Christ's perfect righteousness as a gift, clothing us in His perfection. This scandal of grace offends those who want to save themselves, yet it remains the best news on planet Earth for those who recognize their need for a Savior.
