Romans: Week 22

Jul 26, 2026    Pastor Pete Nelson

What does it truly mean to live as a follower of Christ in a world that pulls us in every direction? Romans 12:1-2 cuts right to the heart of that question. The passage opens with a single word that unlocks everything: 'therefore.' All of the rich theological groundwork Paul has laid about God's mercy, grace, and redemption now becomes the foundation for a very practical call. We are invited to present ourselves as living sacrifices, an image that would have been immediately striking to its original audience. A sacrifice was a dead thing laid on an altar. Paul flips that image and calls us to something dynamic, an ongoing, daily surrender of our whole selves, body and mind, to God. This is not about guilt or obligation. It is described as our reasonable, logical, even sensible response to everything God has done for us. The message reminds us that worship is far broader than a Sunday morning gathering. It stretches across every conversation, every decision, every moment.
